Christianity is at the root of the evil that has corrupted the West. This is the truth, and it does not admit uncertainty. In its frenetic subversion of every hierarchy, in its exaltation of the weak, the disinherited, those without lineage and without tradition; in its call to “love”, to “believe”, and to yield; in its rancor toward everything that is force, self-sufficiency, knowledge, and aristocracy; in its intolerant and proselytising fanaticism, Christianity poisoned the greatness of the Roman Empire. Enemy of itself and of the world, this dark and barbarous wave remains the principal cause of the West’s decline.

I’m beginning to think Luke has a rape fantasy.

As a heathen myself, I do have one question. Where does the first of the initiates come from? I came to Heathenry due to vision. Is that a kind of invitation from something above?

Actual spiritual experience tends to throw a monkey wrench into the Guenonian/Evolian lines of argumentation and attempts at gatekeeping what is and isn't a legit tradition. If the "traditionalist" is then going to argue that subjective spiritual experience is fake or unreliable, then they're going to have to apply that same standard to the founders of prophets of the religions that they arbitrarily designate as being "real traditions." Otherwise, it's just picking and choosing what is right and wrong based on which traditions have enjoyed more historical incumbency and political power; which at the end of the day becomes a "might makes right" argument.

The author of this piece is certainly right though that the LARP/cosplay forms of modern paganism aren't genuine religion or spirituality. He makes the error though of assuming that the entirety of modern paganism is completely devoid of any connection to the divine, which is simply not true and that anyone who has had real spiritual experiences (like you say you have) from pagan practice knows this quite well.

The author might benefit from actually doing spiritual practices rather than just reading books and parroting talking points from his preferred sources. The is the same sort of stunted epistemological approach to metaphysical topics that afflicts most westerners today.

That is interesting. After the vision I had a general direction. I had a God who seemingly reached out to me. However, I'm not someone who can just Blot and call it a day. I had more questions. So, i ended up floating into Platonism And a magical tradition to make my practice more whole.

The western magical tradition has very ancient roots, going back to Middle Platonism, Neopythagoreanism, Hermeticism, ect., and the even more ancient traditions that influenced those. Incorporating insights and practices from those traditions into today's revived paganisms will only help it, despite the shrieks of pedantic resconstructionists.
